signing our purchase agreement
Signing our purchase agreement was probably one of the first meetings that really stressed my boyfriend and I out. This initial meeting meant that we were committing to a lot of decisions and agreeing to what we call The Blitz, which is just the string of appointments that came after signing the purchase agreement that required us to make even more quick decisions. We realize that it’s part of the process and we probably rushed it even more for us because we wanted a specific homesite lot— the corner! We chose a corner lot because it was the most flat land available and also because it looked like a fairly large size— we were right! The lot itself was slightly over a quarter of an acre. Our chihuahua would be totally happy with the amount of grass she could roll around in! The premium on the homesite was also reasonable given the location and size of it. If we were less decisive about the lot we wanted, we definitely would have been able to do more research and take some more time to digest and better understand what we were looking for in our future home.
While the both of us were stressed, this was probably the shortest meeting that we had with our sales representative at Ryan Homes and took about half an hour to 45 minutes. She broke down each form and explained what we were signing. A lot of it was self explanatory, but we appreciated the time she took to let us know why each form was important.
Among the purchase agreement, we also signed:
Upgraded Options Addendum
Natural Materials Acknowledgement
State Consumer Notice
NVR Broker Policy
Customer Data Sheet
Customer Master Selection Sheet (MSS)
At the end of this meeting, Beverly (our sales representative) gave us:
copies of the forms we signed
Note: Digital copies were also sent to us
copies of our blueprints
exterior
electrical
floor plan
a folder with our address
a file folder with labeled tabs to keep future paperwork organized
a USB that includes all of the information she gave us
a little bag of chocolates she made for us that were house-shaped (thoughtful!)
Before we left, we took a look at the exterior color options and interior options to help us make a decision before our 7 Day Structural Meeting. Luckily, the boyfriend and I seem to have similar tastes when it comes to color schemes!
Pro tips
If you’re not particular about the homesite lot, use the time before you reserve a lot to do a lot of research and make sure you’ll be happy with the floor plan, that you’ve exhausted all potential options that you’ll want, and think about wishlist options you might like to have.
Make sure you’re ready for The Blitz! Not only will you be taking some time off of work for these meetings, you’ll also want to come into these meetings with a rough idea of what will happen during each upcoming appointment. This will help you plan and give you and your partner talking points about where your heads are at with options, colors, etc.
