leap into new adventures
For anyone that knows me personally, they will be able to tell you that I am a sucker for watching shows on HGTV, browsing Pinterest for hours on end while I dream up of my perfect house. It felt like one of those faraway goals that may or may not happen, since I have a handful of fairly lofty goals. While my mom did a great job providing for us, we were also unable to have a house to call our own. I knew growing up, that a measurement of success for me would be to have the ability to invite my mom to a place that I would call our home.
For the past few years, I’ve scoured real estate apps and websites like Trulia and Zillow to try and imagine myself in these potential future homes. While some were beautiful, they were completely out of my price range. The ones that were in my price range needed a little bit too much work and love for me. Mind you, I only recently graduated from college about a year ago, so my savings are also pretty slim, but a girl’s got big dreams! She’s got to prepare for these dreams in any way she can while trying to break some glass ceilings in the process.
I’ve been in a fairly serious relationship with my boyfriend for some time now, and I think we are both prepared to make some type of move towards getting our own place. In the past month or so, we noticed some new home development communities pop up around locations that we’ve really liked. We’ve taken a few spontaneous drives to visit soon-to-be developed locations and communities who are further along their development stages, and it looks like there is hope yet!
We’ve met with some sales representatives for Ryan Homes to ask them all of the questions we have about the buying and construction process. We’ve met with a real estate agent to also ask her all of the questions we have that she may be able to answer for us. All of these pre-decision meetings lead us to making an appointment with a sales representative officially to ask about some final details we are missing and also to potentially pick our lot that we will build our home on!
We went out for dinner with our real estate agent and this was just the sign I was looking for for that small nudge:
My boyfriend had a similar fortune cookie about two weeks ago that was slightly less blunt, but I don’t remember what it said exactly since I didn’t take a picture of it. However, we are both very excited— maybe me a bit more than he is.
While this is a huge decision, we both think that it’s the right time and things are falling into place well enough that we might as well explore this as an option. Hopefully I’ll be able to share this journey with anyone that ends up finding this blog. I’ll try to be as helpful as possible in the process planning in case someone does end up having similar questions as me and my boyfriend did. If not, at least I’ll be able to document this process for me to revisit later on.
Cheers!
